Central Lombok – Injourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has proposed international flight routes to and from Lombok Airport in order to support the Indonesian MotoGP event at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB).
ITDC’s Aviation Development Communication Team, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, in Central Lombok on Wednesday stated that they have already initiated communication with airlines to establish international flights.
“This has been approved by the airlines, especially since Lombok Airport has recently expanded its runway,” he said.
They have communicated with the airlines, and they have agreed, but they are still assessing the sustainability of the cooperation agreement to be implemented.
“This initial phase is quite challenging,” he said.
Previously, there were international flight routes such as to Malaysia, but due to disasters like the 2018 earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, these routes no longer exist.
His office has held discussion forums with relevant stakeholders and requested that the provincial and central governments assist.
“It is hoped that the government of West Nusa Tenggara Province and the central government will support the airline’s needs,” he said.
The proposed international flight routes currently include Australia, as this could attract other tourists to visit NTB.
“However, the target international flight routes also include Korea, China, and Thailand,” he said.
